Lately, the employability of people with disabilities has been gradually increasing. In Spain, the percentage of people with disabilities with a job stands at 34.5%, a situation that particularly affects those jobs that require a qualification.

Many of these people have studied for years and most of them had to fight harder than others to get a job opportunity. This is something that Jonathan, an Atresadvertising member in the Barcelona delegation, knows very well. Although he is aware that many companies have made a progress in hiring people with disabilities, he considers that there is still a long way to go: “The worst disability is fear and today society is full of people with fear”. This is why Jonathan is grateful for working at Atresmedia, which he defines as "a leading company in innovation and with a clear commitment to people with disabilities" and he considers that a part of the social responsibility of companies is "to be able to make future societies more diverse".

The current health crisis caused by COVID-19 has hampered this reality a bit more, although it has also opened a new possibility with the arrival of homeworking for all those people with reduced mobility. During exactly this time, Domingo joined Atresmedia as a Content Accessibility worker, within Atresmedia Broadcasting Department: "I feel very fortunate to take on the opportunity that Atresmedia gave me in the middle of this maelstrom". As he explains, he is enriching his professional experience within a television department thanks to his work at the Company, fulfilling one of his goals in a practical and real way: “I am deaf, and my biggest goal when studying my university career was to break down accessibility barriers for deaf people on television ”. Promoting equality and diversity are constant objectives for Atresmedia and these beliefs are also reflected in our staff, as Domingo explains: "My boss wore a transparent mask from day one. She made it herself to facilitate me lip reading". Domingo's testimony and work is essential to make everything that people with disabilities are capable of doing visible: "Companies must trust our talent and give us adequate responsibility for our qualifications".

Mar is our last testimonial, she belongs to the Network Marketing department and feels that this job is the result of many years of training. According to her, "working at Atresmedia marketing area is the dream of any Advertising and Public Relations student" as it allows her to continue increasing her marketing knowledge and collaborate "side by side with leading media sector specialists, both from the Group as in the hands of video producting companies”.

In 2019, the Atresmedia team was made up of 2,527 people, of which 45 had a disability such as Domingo, Mar or Jonathan. Atresmedia is well aware that the main asset of a company are the people who work there and these testimonies are an example of the Group's commitment to incorporating employees with disabilities into its workforce. The normalization of disability is essential to achieve real equality working conditions in companies, and that is why Atresmedia complies with the legal quota established by the General Disability Law.
